How to Get Rid of a Mattress in Broward County

By Gym Junksters · August 5, 2026

Figuring out how to get rid of a mattress in Broward County is one of those chores that sounds easy until you try it. A queen is floppy, awkward and heavier than it looks. It doesn't fit in most cars. And it can't just go in the garbage can. The good news is you've got a few options in South Florida, and one of them is probably right for you.

Option 1: Donate it, if it's clean

Some charities and furniture banks take mattresses, but the bar is high. Most want it clean, dry, free of stains and tears, and without any sign of pests. A lot of places won't take used mattresses at all. Call before you load it up so you don't get turned away at the door.

If your mattress is in good shape but nobody will take it, a neighbor or family member might. Facebook Marketplace and Nextdoor work too. Just be honest about its age and condition.

Option 2: Use a store take-back

Buying a new one? Ask the store if they'll take the old one when they deliver the new one. Some do, sometimes for an extra fee. Usually the old mattress has to be stripped and ready to go when the crew shows up. Ask about this when you buy, not on delivery day.

Option 3: Put it out for bulk pickup

Most cities in Broward and Palm Beach Counties will take a mattress on bulk trash day. But every city has its own limits and its own rules, and piles over the limit get tagged and left. Check your city's solid waste page before you drag it to the curb. Our post on bulk trash pickup limits in Broward County covers how those limits work.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • A mattress sitting in the rain for a few days gets heavy and gross.
  • Your HOA may not allow curb piles at all.
  • If you also have a box spring, frame and headboard, that adds up toward the limit.

Option 4: Have it hauled

This is where we come in. Our crew carries it out of the bedroom, down the stairs and into the trailer. You don't lift a thing. We take mattresses, box springs, bed frames, headboards and the rest of the bedroom set if you're clearing it out. Learn more: furniture removal.

We recycle mattresses when we can. If yours is still in good shape, we'll try to donate it first.

What does it cost?

We price by how much of our trailer your stuff fills, not per item. A single mattress usually falls in our minimum load, which is $105 to $125. That price includes labor, loading, the haul and the dump or recycling fees. If you're paying the minimum anyway, toss in that old dresser or nightstand too. Stairs, long carries and tight spots can change the price. See our pricing for every load size.

What about bed bugs?

Yes, we can take a mattress with bed bugs, for an extra charge. Let us know up front so our crew can handle it the right way. Wrap it in plastic if you can. We don't do pest control or cleaning, so call an exterminator for the room itself.

Tips before pickup day

  • Strip the sheets and mattress pad.
  • Clear a path from the bedroom to the door.
  • If you live in a gated community, add us to the gate list or we'll call from the gate.
  • Condo? We're licensed and insured and can send a COI to your building.

Think of it as your rest day. Literally. You get a new bed and we do the heavy part.
